Connecticut Counselor Tour Program

Trinity, UConn, and Yale’s Connecticut Counselor Tour Program is a fully-funded, three-day, two-night event for counselors from community-based and college-access organizations that coincides with the annual Community Day at Yale. Selected participants will attend campus tours, panels, information sessions, and workshops focused on identifying distinguishing characteristics of each institution as well as developing broader college counseling skills.
 

Frequently Asked Questions 

Q. How will Trinity, UConn, and Yale select Connecticut Counselor Tour participants?
A. Trinity, UConn, and Yale admissions representatives will review all applications for the Connecticut Counselor Tour following the July 1 deadline. To ensure a broad variety of community-based and college-access organizations are represented, only one counselor per organization may attend. Selected participants will be notified mid-July.

Q. Is it possible to leave the Connecticut Counselor Tour early or extend a stay beyond October 1-3?
A. Selected participants will be expected to join all scheduled events on Thursday, October 1 through Saturday, October 3. Saturday’s schedule will center on the Community Day at Yale, which is open to the public. Participants may opt to arrive earlier or leave later but will need to share arrival and departure details when accepting their invitation. Trinity, UConn, and Yale will cover reasonable transportation costs associated with an early arrival or later departure, but participants will be responsible for any additional lodging and meal costs.

Q. What are the housing accommodations for selected participants?

A. The Connecticut Counselor Tour Program accommodations will be single rooms in a New Haven hotel, only for selected participants.

Q. What is the Connecticut Counselor Tour agenda?

A. The program begins with a welcome dinner on Thursday followed by a half day on UConn’s campus, and a half day on Trinity’s campus on Friday. Participants will then participate in Community Day at Yale programming on Saturday. The program will conclude Saturday afternoon.

Q. Will I have time to meet up with my former students who attend Trinity, UConn, or Yale?

A. Yes. The Connecticut Counselor Tour Program will include unstructured time to connect with current students and explore our campuses.

Q. Are independent counselors eligible to participate in the Connecticut Counselor Tour Program?

A. No. The Connecticut Counselor Tour Program is limited to counselors working with community-based and college access organizations serving students who have been historically underrepresented in higher education.

Q. Will Trinity, UConn, and Yale accommodate dietary restrictions or other accessibility needs?

A.  Yes. Selected participants will be invited to share details of dietary restrictions, food allergies and other accessibility needs prior to booking transportation.
