Job Description:
As Senior Interviewers, Yale seniors are able to contribute to the College community by assisting in the selection of the next incoming class. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions offers some first-year applicants the opportunity to partake in an optional admissions interview conducted by a Yale undergraduate.
Interviewers will be trained to conduct virtual interviews with applicants and assess each candidate in a written report. They will assist in the evaluation and recruitment of the Class of 2026.
We are seeking seniors with strong communication and writing skills and the maturity to understand the public relations nature of this position. This is a unique student job because it involves significant professional responsibility, enthusiasm for Yale, and the ability to reflect upon your undergraduate experience. The most successful job applicants will be those who enjoy collaborating in tight-knit teams, engaging in active listening, and connecting to others about their experiences at Yale. Candidates should be able to demonstrate how they have successfully met deadlines in a timely manner during previous roles and opportunities.
Over the course of this position, Senior Interviewers will develop soft skills - especially in interpersonal communication - that can translate to countless educational and professional endeavors. Recent alumni of the program have gone on to accept opportunities in healthcare, education, research, consulting, graduate/professional school, and more.
Employment Details:
Throughout the year, the Senior Interviewing position will be part-time, but student employees will have flexibility in building their own hours. Interviewers should expect to work up to ten hours per week from October 25 through December 5 and from January 10 through March 11. Training sessions will take place in the lead-up to the first interviews in late October. All interviews, along with training and check-ins with supervisors and fellow interviewers, will take place virtually over Zoom for the duration of the program. There may be some in-person team meetings should public health guidance allow for them.
Interviewers will be paid a wage of $14.50 per hour based on the timely submission of interview reports; one interview with its corresponding report is equivalent to one hour of work.
Application Deadline:
The deadline for completing the following application is
Friday, September 17 by 5:00pm local time. Please also send a copy of your unofficial transcript to
julian.tamayo@yale.edu. You may be invited to a virtual interview for the position.
We are unable to accommodate students who are on leave for one or both semesters of the 2021-2022 academic year unless due to early graduation. Please note as well that the 2021-2022 Senior Interviewing Program and its timeline as described above may be subject to university-wide policies related to COVID-19. We will give as much notice as possible to potential interviewers in the event that the parameters or feasibility of this position change.
